Abstract With the development of urbanization into the middle and later stage, the scale of population flow in China enters the adjustment stage, and the citizenization of migrant population has strategic significance for the sustainable development of urbanization. In the process of social integration, community, as the basic spatial unit, should play a key role. However, changes in community population structure and neighborhood relations lead to the defamiliarization trend of community, thereby hindering the process of community integrations. Based on case study of a typical traditional community in the downtown area of Shanghai, this paper investigates the community integration differences of different groups in the process of urbanization from two aspects of community emotional belonging and community public space behavior. Then this paper explores the correlation between community integration condition and utilization of public space on the basis of their group characteristics. Finally the paper proposes construction strategies of community public space to promote community integration, to stimulate the participation of different community residents, to enhance the sense of belonging of residents, and thus to create a community unit of co-governing and vitality regeneration.
